Setting up an online profile is easy.

You put in your name and age, come up with a bio, and upload a photo — voila! You have yourself an online dating profile. But is that really all that’s needed?

You can’t guarantee that your profile will attract the kind of people you want to meet in real life. Quite possibly, they might even skip over your profile entirely.

Online dating users tend to take their profiles for granted. Even if they’ve got the basics down to a tee, there’s no telling if what they’re doing will work out for them in the long run.

Creating a captivating dating profile requires a lot of research — you can’t just put on a half-baked effort and hope for the best outcome. You have to put in the needed effort to make yourself more appealing.

If you want to attract the right people, you need to be critical of how you present yourself on the dating platform you’re using. Keep in mind, the better you present yourself, the higher the chances you’ll get decent matches.

To help you create an effective dating profile, here are some tips and tricks you can follow:

Write a bio that’s the closest to your personality.

Ask your friends how they see you as a person. Are you the lively type? The talkative type? Or maybe the “take it easy” kind of guy?

Whatever it is, try to encapsulate that persona into words and use it as your bio. Likewise, make sure you maintain the same energy you have online during meetups. Otherwise, you’ll end up disappointing your dates.

It can be off-putting to be greeted by an entirely different character. They might have been expecting something similar to the persona you have online, which is far from the real you.

That said, be honest when portraying yourself on your profile. You won’t gain anything by including fabricated details about yourself. As much as possible, present your authentic self. Paint a picture of who you truly are as a person in your dating profile. That way, you’ll attract the right person for you.

Choose the picture that best represents you.

As a general rule, you have to pick your best selfie. If you aren’t a fan of taking pictures, choosing a display photo can be a challenge. There are far too many things you have to consider — including, but not limited to, the photo’s resolution, the lighting, the angle, and its overall vibe..

The best way to overcome this dilemma is by asking yourself: does this photo best represent who I am in real life? If so, then go with it.

If you can’t find a high-quality photo of yourself that shows your best assets, you’ll have to settle with whatever recent and decent picture you have.

You don’t have to post a professionally taken portrait of yourself. If your face is visible and it’s of good quality, you should be fine.

Besides, choosing a profile photo is not about looking pretty. It’s all about standing out and accurately representing yourself. You can even pick a goofy photo. You’re more likely to attract like-minded women if you choose the most candid photos of yourself.

Be specific in what you want.

It pays to be direct and transparent in terms of who and what you’re looking for on a dating site. Yes, it might ward off some potential partners — but that’s exactly the point.

There’s no use in starting a relationship when you both have different goals in mind. You might want to have kids, while your potential partner doesn’t.

It’s much better to filter your options. That way, you have a much better chance of finding someone with whom you are compatible.

Sparingly use chatspeak or urban dictionary terms.

Talking in internet slang is fine and all, but be careful in overusing them.

Some jokes or memes on the internet are often short-lived, and it can be difficult to catch up with pop culture. You’re better off avoiding them entirely than trying hard to blend in with the current times.

Besides, it’s tiring to keep up a facade. Changing your entire personality to cater to the person you like won’t do any good for you. You’ll only end up miserable and lost in the relationship.

But if you’re into pop culture and you want to attract people who are into it as well, by all means, go for it. Otherwise, you’ll be better off not putting it in your bio at all.

If possible, link your social media accounts to your bio.

The best way to verify a dating site user’s identity is through their social media accounts. With everything going on in the world, it’s always good to take precautions and do a little background research on the person you are interested in.

You can easily confirm a person’s identity by conducting a thorough internet search using their name. Some people call it stalking, but it has become a common practice in the world of modern dating to do so.

Most online dating apps and site users feel much more reassured when their matches have their social media accounts linked to their profiles. That way, they can verify that the person is real and not a bot or a catfish.

It would also help to look at their profile walls. Though social media does not show a person’s true colors, you are at least able to see how they go about their life.

Choose the Right Online Dating Platform

There are tons of online dating apps and sites to help you in your search for love. The only issue is that you have to do most of the work yourself.

Meaning, you have to relentlessly check thousands of dating profiles one by one, interview your matches if they’re right for you, and go through the whole online dating process.

If you don’t have enough time or energy for that, your best option would be to choose dating sites with real and live matchmakers.

Professional matchmakers will personally help you find your best match, while at the same time, provide you with dating and relationship advice to further deepen your romantic connections.

In sum, it’s a safe, efficient, and convenient way to find a real and serious relationship.
