How far are you willing to go to prove to a woman that you love her?

If you are anything like a lot of the great rulers of the past, brave men of chivalry, and the countless hopeless romantics to have ever walked this earth, you’d probably do any of the following for the woman you love:

1. Wage war against a rival clan or nation

2. Traverse treacherous mountains and deep oceans

3. Duel to the death

4. Kill a dragon

5. Buy her 99 Iphones

Considering, however, that the Philippines is a pleasant and peaceful place (despite what you might hear in the media), being a decent and sincere guy with a pleasing personality is more than enough to land you a nice Filipino girlfriend.

Truth be told, dating in the Philippines is not difficult, nor is it toxic in the way you might find in other places. Filipinos enjoy company; the vast majority do not like to be alone.

So what happens when you start dating a Filipino girl who likes you back? How do you show her that you are unequivocally in love with her? While Filipino ladies do enjoy being wined and dined, that kind of treatment only takes you so far. Sure, you could flaunt your fat bank account, but do you really want to be with a woman who’s only after your wallet?

Here are, instead, a few things you could do to make her realize that you’re just a great guy who she’ll regret passing over:

1. Eat Durian/Balut.

Some people say that proving your worth through Fear-Factor type challenges is outdated. That may be so, until you realize that for most Filipinos, eating durian or balut is the opposite of a challenge. It’s a typical afternoon delight!

Understandably, these delicacies are an acquired taste. Neither the world’s smelliest fruit nor the boiled duck egg with fetus is easy eating for foreigners. But if there is such a thing as a rite of passage in the Philippines, this is it.

2. Travel ALL the Islands.

No, you don’t need to book over 7,000 flights and boat rides. But think of it this way: the Philippines is like a book detailing the history and culture of your date’s people. This book has over 7,000 pages, and you’re most probably on page 2 or 3.

So, schedule a tour to the islands with your Filipino date. Discover islands that don’t even show up on the world map. Take a glimpse of each town’s unique identity. As you flip each page, you begin to appreciate the rich history and heritage that are embodied in that beautiful Filipino woman.

3. Learn some Filipino.

The Filipino language doesn’t just sound nice, it is also perhaps one of the easiest to learn. Its grammar is simple and straightforward. Its phonetics uses the most basic of vowels and consonants. It is melodic and rich with inflection.

And the best part? You can easily mix it up with English. Most Filipinos don’t speak the pure language anymore, which is both sad and practical at the same time. Pure, formal Filipino is reserved mostly for speeches and official declarations. In practice, English phrases and words are seamlessly integrated into everyday language.

If you don’t know how to say something completely in Filipino, settle for a hybrid. For example, you could say “Gusto ko ng iced coffee with caramel.”, which translates to “I want an iced coffee with caramel.”

Learning even just a few words in Filipino can spark the Filipino pride in your woman’s soul. It works every time, so start going through the dictionary ASAP.

4. Get close with her friends and family.

The way to a Filipino woman’s heart is through the people she knows. So make the effort to ingratiate yourself with her closest friends and family. You could bribe your way through, but the best course of action is to show that you are in fact interested and care about her.

Filipinos are susceptible to caring about what others think. So if the people close to her think you’re a pretty good choice, she will too.

5. Learn to cook a Filipino dish.

Nothing says “I can feed you.” more than cooking like her own mother. With the proliferation of fast-food chains, convenience stores, and food delivery services, home cooking is slowly becoming a lost art in the Philippines, just as it is everywhere else in the world.

The great thing about Filipino cooking is its simplicity. You don’t need 70 different spices, nor do you need exotic, hard to find ingredients. Take adobo, for example, which is the national dish.

All you need is garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, a bay leaf, and your choice of meat (chicken, pork, fish). Put it all in a pot, turn up the heat, 45 minutes, and voila! Your very own adobo. You can of course embellish the dish to your liking, and there is no shortage of variations on the web.

And if you are looking to “Filipinize” any dish, simply cook some white rice, pair it up with absolutely any meat dish you have, and you’re good to go.

6. Go to Church.

You may not be religious, but remember that you’re trying to prove your love. So prove it. If she is like 90% of all Filipino women, she likely goes to church on Sundays. And so will her family. So the very least you can do is set aside that single hour of the week to be with her while she goes to mass or attends service.

7. Start adopting a few Filipino quirks.

Sometimes, the best way to understand a person is to live like that person. Filipinos love it when someone from the outside adopts or even hypes something related to their culture. So whether it is bathing with a tabo, pointing with your lips, reusing plastic containers as lunch boxes, or singing karaoke, slowly incorporating these things in your everyday life will give her the impression that you’re a serious contender.
